Ryan and Julia’s Nicollet Island Inn Wedding

I loved working with Julia and Ryan. They were wonderful “in the moment” people. We first took photos by the grain elevators by the river. Then we rode in style from Nicollet Island Inn to United Church of Christ in New Brighten in Ryan’s uncle’s vintage pink and white car. It was a super hot day so we rolled down the windows the old fashioned way and enjoyed the humid air. After the ceremony we headed back to Nicollet Island Inn for some more couple photos, cocktail hour and a sit down dinner. The food was delicious! Here’s a glimpse of their beautiful day .

Twin Pines Yoga

My cabin neighbor, Mary St. Onge, is a fabulous yoga instructor and therapist who instructs in Des Moines, IA in the winter at fitnessbydesigndm.com (see also her upcoming fall retreat listed on this site) and Lake Vermilion, MN in the summer. In the summer, she teaches classes week days on either her double wide dock (heaven) or in her unbelievable yurt (more heaven). Am I the luckiest girl in the world? Yes.

May wedding and the beauty of Crabapple trees

Ah spring! The sounds and smells come alive. The birds sing their songs and flowers blossom with their profusion of scents.

May is a great wedding season because there is never a shortage of backdrops. One of my favorite attractions is the Crabapple tree. This shot was taken at the entrance of Edinburgh Golf Club. I love the white blossoms against the feminine gathering. It totally lights them up.

Do you like this image better in color or sepia?

Here is some more spring. I took this years ago at Lakewood Cemetery and I’ve sold it as a card many times over at flower shops and gift stores. I’ve given it a twist here with a antique finish.

This image is what you call a picture within a picture. I was driving through Tangletown in Minneapolis after an evening photo shoot and the pink flowers drew me in. I took many shots but this particular background in one of my images spoke to me, so I cropped it. There is an interesting play of complimentary color and balance and the image also has a yummy painterly effect.

I look forward to doing Senior pictures throughout the summer and will be mixing in a little Annie Leibovitz style portraiture for interested students to keep as a 5×7 on giclee paper. Such a treat. All that’s needed is a place, persona and props!

Twist and Shout

Could anyone come up with more clever names? These two adorable King Charles spaniels were a delight to photograph. Though they may look the same, their personalities were entirely different. But that’s what made them so interesting to watch. Having been through training, these dogs were such a pleasure to work with as their owners knew exactly how to persuade them (with a little coaxing and treats) to go where we wanted them. After the shoot, I wanted to take them home with me! Here are a few pictures of the little darlings.

I love the brides and grooms who embrace the opportunity to tie the knot in the winter months of Minnesota. Jake and Maggie are one of those couples. It was a super cold day on January 9th, but the sun was beautifully bright. Maggie wore a elegant off the shoulder wedding dress and Jake looked stylish in his charcoal gray suit. There were some wonderful locations for photo backdrops at Westminster Church: The foyer with Fica trees and hallways and a room upstairs with Childrens artwork. The Ivy hotel offered some welcoming places for picture taking as well. Have a look.

I had the honor of documenting Brenda Johnson’s (Johnsondesignandetc.com) wonderful photo exhibit open house held on October 7th. Her large photographs of edibles and minerals below were exhibited at 1211 Jackson St. in North Minneapolis. With her lovely work to enjoy with fans, friends and family, yummy appetizers and compelling violin music performed by Emma Richman… the evening was certainly a study in stimulating the senses.

Ever wonder what the artist really sees when capturing images? Not only is it what they see, but it’s also what they imagine. Here is what these flowers have to say.

Do you ignore me until I am fully open? Look at me now. I am young and beautiful. Get a load of those black outlines. Aren’t they something? You won’t see those when I’m in full bloom.

I’m like a cat with 6 toes. I’m distracting and funny and compelling. My petals are not perfect and you notice me. I am extraordinary because of them. I’m not normal. I make you grin.

What am I? I am a submarine telescope spying on you. I’m a teenage Dahlia.

I can be very ordinary amongst my peers but when I appear out of no where on my own in the midst of these giant green accommodating leaves – WELL……..Can you hear me now?

My leaves are like mini fans. It’s fun to stare at the veins against the robins egg blue background. The form and shape compliment my little lily friends soon to be hot pink eye catchers. Yes, I make it possible, The Branch.

I am an example of the survival of the fittest. I made it but the others in the garden didn’t. If you get really close you can see my fine hair on my arrowed hands and head. If you look from afar….I blend and you won’t find me.

This picture makes me look so grand but I am no bigger than the end of your pinky. You have to get down on your hands and knees to get a good look. I’m as delicate and tiny as a newborn. Forget Me Not.
